Thomas Eickmann, MD

Dr. Thomas Eickmann joined Cornerstone Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2005 and currently serves as the President of the practice’s Board of Directors. As a Total Joint Specialist in hip and knee replacements, he is a Fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, as well as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. “I use surgical techniques that focus on safety and reliability first, but also allow a fast recovery following outpatient joint replacement,” Dr. Eickmann said.

Prior to working at Cornerstone Orthopaedics, Dr. Eickmann graduated Cum Laude from Walla Walla College in College Place, WA with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. After graduating, he attended medical school and completed his internship and residency at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA. He completed his fellowship at Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in 2005, where he subspecialized in Adult Reconstruction in Alexandria, VA. During Dr. Eickmann’s fellowship, he also co-authored a chapter in the book, Insall & Scott Surgery of the Knee, where they discussed the indications for constraint in total knee replacements.

Dr. Eickmann’s extensive research in his specialty has been acknowledged, published, and/or presented in various journals and meetings. His research on unicompartmental knee replacements was presented at The Interim Knee Society and published in The Journal of Arthroplasty. In addition, his is research on backside motion in modular hip prosthesis was presented at the Orthopedic Research Society and his research on a new innovative suture material was published in The Journal of Knee Surgery.

As an entrepreneur and leader in the industry, Dr. Eickmann has served and continues to serve on multiple committees. Dr. Eickmann has had the opportunity to serve as an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons moderator and critical evaluator, a member of the Adult Reconstruction Knee Program Committee, and a surgical skills trainer. He was also a reviewer for The Journal of Biomedical Materials Research. Currently, Dr. Eickmann is the Medical Director of Joint Replacement at Avista Adventist Hospital and is the President/Founder of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Joint and Spine, where he consults for ASC’s wishing to start outpatient joint programs.

Dr. Eickmann has also used his medical talents to make a difference in the lives of those in need by traveling with Global Health Initiatives’ medical mission teams. When Dr. Eickmann is not performing a surgery, he loves to go Jeeping and playing sports with his wife and three kids. His other hobbies include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and being active in his local church.
